Discover Flexible, Inclusive, and Personalised Respite Options with Aruma

Short term accommodation or respite can mean something different to everyone. It might be rest for a carer, or an adventure and change of scenery for someone with a disability.

For Aruma Community Manager, Elaine Burke, there’s no ‘one size fits all’ solution to rest.

“People come to us for a variety of reasons, we are here to offer everyone the support they need in whatever way suits their family. Families know their loved one is safe and happy, and that way everyone gets to come home refreshed.”

Here’s Elaine’s top three tips for what you need to know when accessing support for yourself or someone in your care.

#1 Check your entitlements

NDIS plans allow for up to 28 days a year in short-term accommodation. Check your package for details around funded overnight, weekend and holiday eligibility.

With short term accommodation, and flexible support programs available nation-wide, you don’t need to be an existing customer of Aruma to access the support.

While we encourage planning ahead and maximising the days available to you, we recognise there are times you can’t and we can accommodate these instances.

#2 Consider your needs

There’s a range of options to suit a variety of needs, all supported by a fully trained team, regardless of the disability or needs.

Are you looking for a day, weekend or more? Our weekend activity program is fantastic for a day out, we can also accommodate short term stays in our specialty designed accommodation or in-home care.

If you’re not sure, you can always chat to our team who can match you to the service that best supports your needs.

#3 Inclusive means inclusive

Check the inclusions. At Aruma, when we say ‘inclusive’ we mean it. We’ll take over all aspects of care including nutrition, food, personal care, medication monitoring and of course the activities.

The activities are all about choice, we provide options and our participants get the final say in how they will spend their time.

David’s escape to the country

David recently stayed at our Alstonville property in NSW. The beautiful greenery, approachable furry friends, and the fantastic café make it a great place to unwind and appreciate the simple things in life.

“David’s favourite part about staying at Alstonville is just having a bit of a break from his normal routine. It’s in such a great location, so you can spend your days relaxing, or if you venture out into the community, there are lots of activities to do.” said Allira Halloran, Manager Community.

If that sounds appealing to you or your loved one and for more information on the models of care available at Aruma, you can contact our Community Managers on 1300 538 746.
