West of the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions lies Somerset. Home to Somerset and Wivenhoe dams, the region is a major catchment for South East Queensland with farming being the main economic activity.

The Somerset Region isn't only about dams, you can also see a Yowie in Kilcoy. Described as Australia’s Bigfoot, the creature has roots in Aboriginal oral history and is described as standing up to 3.6 meters tall! The Yowie in Kilkoy however is made of wood, but if you miss the real thing you can still get a Yowie burger in the town.

Like most of South East Queensland, Somerset experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, despite the beautiful weather unlike Brisbane and the Gold Coast the resident population of Somerset regional numbers around 23,000 persons and only 0.5 percent of Queensland's population.

Famous towns in the region include the historical Esk named after the River Esk in Scotland, it is the administrative center of the Somerset region. The town features plenty of timber homes and shops with wrap around veranda’s known as Queenslanders. Of the most famous in the region is Bellevue Homestead, dating back to the 1840’s when squatters built two huts on the land. As time passed, it changed hands several times and extensions of the house were added. One such modification hailed a visit by HRH Prince Edward, Prince of Wales who later became King Edward VII.

With an amazing climate, beautiful outdoor lifestyle and history soaked soil, The Somerset Region is sure to fulfil your wishes of living closer to nature.
