Application Criteria
To support a positive and compatible shared living arrangement, applications will be assessed with consideration to the needs, preferences and goals of all residents. Suitable applicants will ideally:
Have approved 1:3 Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding.
Be seeking a long-term, stable home environment rather than short-term accommodation.
Enjoy a peaceful lifestyle, natural surroundings, animals, gardening or outdoor activities.
Value friendship, community participation and shared experiences with housemates.
Be interested in developing their independence, life skills and community connections.
Be comfortable living in a household where one resident enjoys regular social interaction and benefits from a structured, predictable environment.
Demonstrate compatibility with the existing resident's interests, support needs and lifestyle preferences.
Applicants should also be aware that an existing resident has an NDIS-approved Positive Behaviour Support Plan which includes a regulated restrictive practice. This consists of a locked pantry and fridge (Environmental Restraint) outside designated meal and snack times to support the management of food access associated with health conditions. All prospective housemates must be willing and able to live comfortably within an environment where this restrictive practice is implemented and regularly reviewed.
As part of the matching process, information may be requested regarding:
Current living arrangements and location.
NDIS goals and support requirements.
Age and stage of life.
Interests, lifestyle preferences and community participation goals.
Cultural background, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status, where applicants choose to provide this information.
Informal support networks and long-term housing aspirations.
The primary focus of the selection process is to identify housemates who are likely to enjoy living together, build positive relationships and contribute to a safe, stable and inclusive home environment.
